The three chemistries
Lower price up front usually means higher cost per kilometre over the life of the pack.
Lead-acid
Cheapest to buy, heaviest to carry and shortest-lived. Sensible only for short, low daily running. Typically 48V and 60V.
Lithium-ion
The common choice on new vehicles: much lighter, faster to charge, far longer life. On many models the pack lifts out to charge indoors. 48V, 60V and 72V.
LFP (LiFePO₄)
The safest chemistry and the most charge cycles, which is why Okaya's Faast, Defy and FEV series use it. Best if you cover serious distance.
Is your battery on the way out?
These are the usual signs. Any one of them on its own can also be a charger or a controller fault, which is why we test before selling you anything.
Range keeps falling
You are charging more often for the same trips, or no longer reaching where you used to.
Charges too fast, empties too fast
A pack that fills in an hour and drains in ten kilometres has lost most of its capacity.
Heat or swelling
A pack that gets hot while charging, or looks swollen, should be brought in immediately.
Sudden cut-outs
Power dropping out under load, especially on an incline, often means weak cells.

Frequently asked questions
Can you replace the battery on a scooter you did not sell?
Yes. We supply and fit batteries for electric two-wheelers of any brand, in 48V, 60V and 72V, lead-acid, lithium-ion or LFP.
How long should an EV battery last?
It depends on the chemistry and how it is treated. Lead-acid packs have the shortest life, lithium-ion considerably longer, and LFP the longest of the three. Charging habits matter as much as the chemistry.
How can I make the battery last longer?
Avoid running it flat to zero regularly, do not leave it on charge for days after it is full, keep it out of direct afternoon sun, and use the charger that came with the vehicle.
Can I upgrade from lead-acid to lithium?
Often yes, but not always — it depends on the controller, the charger and the space in the vehicle. Bring it in and we will tell you whether it is worth doing on your particular scooter.
