Leaving the scooter for Diwali or a long trip
Many Surat families travel for two or three weeks at Diwali. A battery left the wrong way can come back weak or dead. Ten minutes before you leave prevents that.
Quick answer
Before a long trip, leave a lithium-ion or LFP battery at about 40–60 % and switch the scooter off; leave a lead-acid battery fully charged and recharge it about monthly. Unplug the charger, park somewhere dry and shaded, and check the battery before charging on your return.
How to leave each battery type
| Battery | Charge before leaving | While away |
|---|---|---|
| Lithium-ion (NMC) and LFP | About 40–60 %, not full and not empty | Switched off; top up to about half if away more than a month |
| Lead-acid | Fully charged | Recharge fully about once a month; a half-empty lead-acid battery sulphates |
If your scooter’s manual gives a different storage level, follow the manual.
Why not just leave it full?
A lithium battery sitting full for weeks ages faster, especially in heat. Battery University recommends storing lithium-ion at about 40 % in a cool place, and scooter makers commonly say 40–60 %. Never leave it near empty either: the battery slowly loses charge on its own, and a cell that drops too low may not recover.
Lead-acid is the opposite. Left partly empty, it builds up sulphate on its plates and loses capacity, so it should be stored full and recharged regularly.
Before you leave
- Bring the battery to the right level for its type, then switch the scooter fully off.
- If your model has a battery isolation switch or a removable pack, disconnect or remove it as the manual says. If not, leave it — do not cut wires.
- Unplug the charger from the wall; do not leave it connected for weeks.
- Park in a dry, shaded, covered place, away from where water collects.
- Pump the tyres to the correct pressure, and lock the scooter.
When you come back
- Look at the battery case for any bulge, crack or leak before charging.
- Charge with the original charger while you are nearby, and check the tyres and brakes.
- If it will not charge or start, do not keep retrying — call our service line on 99091 21102.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How much charge should I leave in my electric scooter for a long trip?
For lithium-ion and LFP, about 40–60 %, switched off. For lead-acid, fully charged.
Can I leave the charger plugged in while I am away?
No. Unplug it. An unattended charger connected for weeks is an avoidable fire risk.
How long can an electric scooter sit without charging?
A lithium battery left at half charge and switched off is usually fine for a few weeks. For longer, check and top it up about once a month; lead-acid needs a full charge about monthly.
