Make your EV battery last longer
The battery is the most expensive part of an electric scooter. These habits cost nothing and add years to it.
Quick answer
Keep a lithium battery between about 20 % and 80 % for daily use, never run it to zero, use the original charger, charge indoors once it has cooled, and park in the shade. Lead-acid batteries should be charged fully.
Everyday habits
- For lithium batteries, keep daily charge roughly between 20 % and 80 %; charge to 100 % before a long trip.
- Do not run the battery to zero. Deep discharges age every chemistry fastest.
- Lead-acid is the exception to the 80 % rule: charge it fully, and do not leave it half-empty for days.
- Use the original or an approved charger. A wrong charger is one of the most common causes of early failure.
Surat heat and monsoon
- Park in the shade in summer and let a hot battery cool for 20–30 minutes before charging.
- Charge indoors in a dry, ventilated place — never in the rain.
- Avoid riding through deep water-logging; water in the connectors causes faults weeks later.
Leaving the scooter unused
For a few weeks away, leave a lithium battery at about half charge, switched off, and top it up once a month. Leave a lead-acid battery fully charged.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Should I charge my electric scooter every day?
For lithium batteries, topping up daily is fine and better than running to zero. Keep it roughly between 20 % and 80 % for everyday use.
Can I leave the scooter charging overnight?
With the original charger and a healthy battery management system it is generally safe, but unplugging once it is full is better for the battery.
